Admission marketing for Mumbai schools, colleges and institutes
Education marketing has a calendar, and fighting it is expensive. The work is building recognition in the quiet months so the admission window converts, rather than buying attention in the one month everybody else is buying it too.
The cycle
Plan backwards from the admission window
Four phases. Most institutes only budget for the third, which is why it costs them so much.
Quiet months
Recognition, results, faculty, campus life, alumni. Cheap attention, because nobody is competing for it. This is what makes the expensive months affordable.
Pre-window
Open days, counselling sessions, curriculum explainers. Capturing interest before the form opens, so you are not starting from zero on day one.
The window
Paid media at full intensity, enquiry handling at speed, and a form that works on a phone. Every competitor is bidding now, so the cost per enquiry is at its highest.
After
Nurturing the ones who did not convert. A parent who chose elsewhere this year may have a second child, and almost nobody markets to them.
The audience
You are usually selling to two people
The student is interested. The parent decides and pays. Content that speaks only to one of them loses the other.
What parents want to see
- Results, placements and what happened to last year's students
- Safety, supervision and who is actually teaching
- Fee structure stated plainly, without a form
- Distance, timings and the practical daily reality
- Other parents saying it was worth it
What students respond to
- Campus life as it actually looks
- Current students talking, not a prospectus voice
- What a day there feels like
- Short video, on the platforms they are already on
In Mumbai this usually means running in two languages as well. A parent reading Marathi or Hindi is frequently the one making the decision, while the English content reaches the student.
Enquiries
Speed decides admissions more than creative does
In a window where a parent is enquiring at six institutes in one evening, the second caller rarely wins.
Call within the hour
Not the next working day. During the window, an enquiry that is twelve hours old has usually already visited somebody else.
Answer the fee question
Parents ask it first. Refusing to answer until a campus visit loses more enquiries than a high fee does.
Follow up more than once
One missed call is not a rejection. Three attempts across different times converts substantially more than one.
FAQs
Education marketing: common questions
When should we start marketing for the next intake?
Three to four months before the window opens, at minimum, and ideally you never fully stop. Institutes that run a low-cost presence year-round pay far less per enquiry in season than those who switch on in month one.
How much should an institute budget?
Published Mumbai rates put social media at roughly ₹15,000 to ₹50,000 a month depending on production, with paid media on top and concentrated into the window. The useful way to budget is backwards from what one admission is worth to you across the full course fee.
Which platforms work for admissions?
Facebook and Instagram reach parents reliably in Mumbai, and Facebook is considerably stronger with parents than most people assume. YouTube carries campus and faculty video well. Search catches people actively comparing institutes.
Do we need to show fees publicly?
You will convert better if you do, or at least give a range. Parents treat a hidden fee as a warning sign, and the enquiries you lose by stating it were mostly never going to enrol.
Can you work around our approval process?
Yes. Most institutes need trustee or principal sign-off, so we plan a month ahead and batch approvals rather than sending items one at a time.
Is WhatsApp useful for admissions?
Very, because it is where parents actually reply. The important thing is that enquiries arriving there are tracked like any other, not left in a personal phone.
When does your admission window open?
Tell us that and how many seats, and we will plan backwards from it.
