Reels and video production in Mumbai, planned a month at a time
Short-form video is the only format still reliably reaching people who have never heard of you. It is also the most expensive thing on a social calendar, which is why it has to be planned rather than improvised.
The economics
One shoot day, one month of content
A shoot day costs roughly the same whether it produces four pieces or forty. Everything about how we work follows from that.
Script first
Every piece written and approved before anyone sets up a light. Deciding what to film on the day is how a day produces six usable seconds.
Batch by setup
Shot in the order the lighting and props allow, not the order they publish. Fewer resets means more pieces.
Capture extra
Cutaways, product detail, b-roll. Material that costs minutes on the day and saves a whole shoot later.
Edit to format
Each piece cut for where it runs. A reel, a YouTube Short and a LinkedIn clip are not the same edit, even from the same take.
Craft
Built for sound-off viewing
Most short-form video is watched silently, in a feed, by someone who will leave in under a second if nothing happens.
What that means in practice
- The hook lands in the first second, not the first sentence
- Burnt-in captions, always, and readable on a small screen
- The subject visible immediately, no logo intro
- Vertical framing with room for the interface to sit over it
- Cut tighter than feels comfortable in the edit
What kills a reel
- A slow establishing shot
- A branded title card before anything happens
- Text placed where the caption or buttons cover it
- Dialogue that makes no sense without audio
Formats
What we shoot most
Four that work across most Mumbai businesses, in rough order of how reliably they perform.
Answering a real question
Something customers genuinely ask, answered in thirty seconds. Unglamorous, endlessly reusable, and the most dependable format there is.
Process and making
How the thing is made, prepared or installed. People watch this for far longer than anyone expects.
Before and after
Works for anything visual: interiors, property, food, salon, fitness. The structure does the storytelling for you.
Founder to camera
An opinion or a piece of advice, delivered by a person. Cheap to shoot, builds recognition faster than anything else.
FAQs
Video production: common questions
What does a reel cost in Mumbai?
It depends almost entirely on whether a shoot is needed. Edited from footage you supply is the cheap end. A planned shoot day with lighting, props and a crew sits inside the full-service social bands, which published Mumbai rates put at ₹50,000 and upward a month. Shoot costs are normally billed separately from the retainer.
How many reels can one shoot day produce?
With scripts ready, commonly eight to fifteen usable pieces plus cutaway material. Without scripts, often three or four. The planning is worth more than the equipment.
Do you shoot on a phone or a camera?
Both, and the honest answer is that for most feed video the lighting and the script matter more than the sensor. We use a camera where the output deserves it and a phone where it does not change the result.
Can you work with footage we already have?
Yes, and often that is the fastest start. Most businesses are sitting on far more usable material than they realise, particularly from events and site visits.
Do you provide the people on camera?
We can arrange talent, billed separately. More often the best person is somebody who already works there, because they can answer a follow-up question without a script.
How long should a reel be?
As long as it holds attention and no longer. Fifteen to thirty seconds suits most business content. Length matters far less than whether the first second earns the second one.
